The currency behind the number
A pair’s quote currency is not your account currency. A GBP-denominated account trading EUR/USD realises P&L in GBP at the broker’s conversion, and that conversion is part of your result whether or not you chose it.
This is the first thing forex analytics has to get right, and Orderblock keeps the broker’s account currency attached to every imported figure. Changing a display preference does not invent an exchange rate, and results in different currencies are never silently summed. If you want a combined figure across accounts, it has to come from a documented rate and date, not from a dropdown.
What FX-specific analysis actually needs
- Swap and financing, separated from performance
- Overnight financing is a cost of holding, not a trading result. Seeing it on its own is what tells you whether a strategy is profitable or merely carried.
- Holding time buckets
- Compare intraday against multi-day holds. In FX the cost structure changes at the rollover, so a single average hides two different businesses.
- Pair concentration
- Most traded pair, best and worst days, and per-instrument net. Correlated pairs make a book look diversified when it is one position expressed four times.
- Session and timestamp discipline
- Broker timestamps and server timezones differ. Orderblock groups by UTC close date so a trade crossing midnight lands somewhere predictable, and you can check the raw values in the data explorer.
- Hedged and partial closes
- Hedged FX and CFD histories, and partial closes, are handled as the source reports them. Separate fill or order exports are not silently treated as completed trades.
Metrics computed per account, per currency
- Net P&L
- Sum of each closed trade’s net P&L, in the selected account currency.
- Trading fees
- Sum of recorded fees on closed trades. Broker-reported net P&L already includes costs; fees are not subtracted twice.
- Profit factor
- Sum of positive net trade P&L ÷ absolute sum of negative net trade P&L. No losses with positive profits produces ∞; no closed trades, or only breakeven trades, is unavailable.
- Reward / risk ratio
- Average net winning trade ÷ average absolute net losing trade. This is realized payoff, not the planned reward / risk at entry. Requires both winners and losers.
- Maximum drawdown
- Largest peak-to-trough decline in cumulative closed-trade P&L. Starts at zero and excludes unrealized positions and deposits. Trades that close at the same instant move equity once, together, so row order cannot create a drawdown.
- Average day P&L
- Net closed-trade P&L divided by UTC dates with at least one closed trade. Inactive days are excluded.
Getting forex history in
MetaTrader 4 and 5 accounts connect live. Orderblock runs the terminal for you: give it the platform, account login, the exact broker server name and a read-only investor password, and trades appear as they happen. The terminal reads; it never executes.
cTrader connects with a read-only authorisation covering hedged FX and CFD closed history, collected every 15 minutes. OANDA v20 practice and live accounts can also connect with a token, and IBKR Flex works through a configured report and reporting token. Anything else uses statement import, which reads comma, semicolon and tab-delimited files with a guided mapper and a preview.
Reconcile a sample against the original statement before you rely on a new import. A broker appearing in a directory is not proof that every account type under it has a working automatic connection, and Orderblock does not claim otherwise.
FX analytics questions
Can I analyse forex and stocks in the same workspace?
Yes. Orderblock covers forex, stocks, options and futures. Keep each account separate when currencies differ, and note that contract multipliers and settlement conventions vary by instrument type, so those need explicit mapping at import.
Does Orderblock handle swap and commission?
Where the broker or statement provides them, yes, as separate recorded costs. Where a broker already reports net P&L including costs, Orderblock uses that figure and does not subtract fees twice.
Do I need MT4 or MT5 to use it?
No. MetaTrader is one route among several. CSV statement import works for any broker that exports closed trades, and OANDA, IBKR Flex, SnapTrade and cTrader have their own paths with their own availability conditions.
Is this FX analytics software or a signal service?
Analytics only. Orderblock does not place trades, provide signals, predict prices or manage investments. Its broker adapters use read endpoints.
