Definition
Track the costs recorded against your closed trades.
Formula. Sum of recorded fees on closed trades. Broker-reported net P&L already includes costs; fees are not subtracted twice.
Cost drag against edge
| Per-trade edge before cost | Round-turn cost | Net edge | Trades to break even |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40 | $7 | $33 | Comfortable |
| $12 | $7 | $5 | Fragile — a spread widening removes it |
| $6 | $7 | −$1 | Negative regardless of accuracy |
How it goes wrong
- Double-counting costs
- If the broker already reports net P&L, subtracting fees again understates results. Orderblock uses broker-reported net as net and shows recorded fees separately.
- Forgetting swap on multi-day holds
- Overnight financing accrues per rollover and is invisible on a per-trade basis until you total it across the period.
- Excluding spread
- Spread is a cost even where no commission is charged. A statement showing zero fees is not a statement showing zero costs.
Questions
Why do my fees show as zero?
Because the source did not provide them separately, usually because it reports net P&L with costs already included. That is recorded as net rather than being reduced a second time.
