Connect MetaTrader 4 or 5

Connect an MT4 or MT5 account at any broker with a read-only investor password. Orderblock runs the terminal for you, so trades sync live with nothing installed.

MetaTrader 4 and 5 accounts connect live at any broker. Orderblock runs a MetaTrader terminal for your account on its own servers, so there is nothing to install and no computer or VPS has to stay on. New trades, open positions and equity arrive about a second after your broker reports them.

What you need

  • The platform: MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
  • Your login: the account number.
  • The exact server name, for example ICMarketsSC-Demo or Pepperstone-Live02. Demo and live servers have different names, and many brokers run several live servers, so copy it rather than typing it from memory.
  • The investor password. This is the read-only password, not your main trading (master) password. Find your investor password shows where to get it.

Find the server name

In the MetaTrader desktop terminal, open File → Login to Trade Account. The server field shows the exact name. Your broker’s account-opening email usually includes it too.

Connect the account

  1. Open Broker connections and choose Connect a broker, or use the connect screen you see after signing up.
  2. Search for your broker, or for MetaTrader 5 or MetaTrader 4 if your broker is not listed. Every MetaTrader broker works.
  3. Choose the platform, then enter your login, the server and the investor password. Orderblock suggests server names it already knows as you type.
  4. If you already have trading accounts in Orderblock, choose whether the trades go into one of them or into a new account. For a new account, pick the currency you deposited in. It must match the MetaTrader account.
  5. Select Connect. Connecting confirms that this is the investor password and allows Orderblock to read the account.

What happens next

You see each stage as it happens: the connection is queued, a terminal starts (usually within a minute), it signs in read-only and imports your history. Your full history is imported, from the first trade on the account. After that, trades appear as they open and close, around the clock, whether or not you are signed in.

History import usually takes a few minutes. Large accounts can take longer; if it does, the status shows history_timeout and Orderblock keeps retrying in the background. You can leave the page.

Your investor password is encrypted, used only to start the terminal and never shown again.

Prop firm and funded accounts

If a prop firm gives you a MetaTrader account and allows investor logins, it connects like any other. Some firms show the investor password on their dashboard. If yours does not, import the history from a statement instead: see Import trades from a CSV statement.

If something goes wrong

Most failures are a mistyped server or the wrong password. Fix MetaTrader connection errors lists every error with its fix. You can retry from Broker connections → Manage without starting again.
